## What is CVE-2026-109618?

CVE-2026-109618 is a critical vulnerability in Paloaltonetworks Pan-Os, published on 21 Oct 2026.

### Official description

PHP uses longjmp() for out-of-memory (OOM) errors to exit the current context and abort handling of the request. Some contexts may not properly account for this scenario and leave request memory in an uninitialized state before performing an allocation. The subsequent request cleanup procedure may read or branch on this memory. Multiple OOM strategies can consistently trigger this condition and lead to remote code execution (RCE).

Weakness: CWE-824 (Access of Uninitialized Pointer), CWE-755 (Improper Handling of Exceptional Conditions), CWE-416 (Use After Free), CWE-1419 (Incorrect Initialization of Resource), CWE-1325 (Improperly Controlled Sequential Memory Allocation)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2026-109618 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2026-109618 is a critical vulnerability in Paloaltonetworks Pan-Os, published on 21 Oct 2026.
Exploitation: Yes. Attackers have exploited CVE-2026-109618 in the wild since at least 26 Oct 2026.
Affected packages and fixed versions:
- libphp (Bitnami): affected from 7.3.0; fixed in 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12
- php (Bitnami): affected from 7.3.0; fixed in 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12
- php-min (Bitnami): affected from 7.3.0; fixed in 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, 8.5.12
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
