## What is CVE-2026-111442?

CVE-2026-111442 is a medium-severity cross-site scripting vulnerability in BackdropCMS Backdrop, published on 16 Oct 2026. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

Backdrop CMS Core 1.35.x before 1.35.2 and 1.34.x before 1.34.6 does not sufficiently validate uploaded SVG images to ensure they lack potentially dangerous SVG tags. SVG images can contain clickable links or executable scripting. By uploading a crafted SVG, it is possible to execute scripting in the browser when an SVG image is viewed. This issue is mitigated by the attacker needing to be able to upload SVG images, and that Backdrop embeds all uploaded SVG images within <img> tags, which prevents script from executing. The SVG must be viewed directly by its URL in order to run any embedded scripting.

Weakness: CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation)

Check this codebase for CVE-2026-111442 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2026-111442 is a medium-severity cross-site scripting vulnerability in BackdropCMS Backdrop, published on 16 Oct 2026. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-111442 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected product: BackdropCMS Backdrop. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
