What is CVE-2026-27145?

CVE-2026-27145 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in Go standard library crypto/x509, published on 2 Jun 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.

Official description

(*x509.Certificate).VerifyHostname previously called matchHostnames in a loop over all DNS Subject Alternative Name (SAN) entries. This caused strings.Split(host, ".") to execute repeatedly on the same input hostname. With a large DNS SAN list, verification costs scaled quadratically based on the number of SAN entries multiplied by the hostname's label count. Because x509.Verify validates hostnames before building the certificate chain, this overhead occurred even for untrusted certificates.

How do I fix CVE-2026-27145?

Upgrade golang to a fixed version for your release line: 1.25.11 or 1.26.4.

Upgrade, then put limits on request size, rate and nesting depth so one client cannot exhaust the service. More about Denial of service.
