Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-29080 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 1.27.0; fixed in 35.8.5, 38.5.5, 39.4.2, 40.1.1\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 1.27.0; fixed in 35.8.5\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 1.27.0; fixed in 35.8.5\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 36.0.0; fixed in 38.5.5\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 36.0.0; fixed in 38.5.5\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 39.0.0; fixed in 39.4.2\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 39.0.0; fixed in 39.4.2\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 40.0.0; fixed in 40.1.1\n- rucio (PyPI): affected from 40.0.0; fixed in 40.1.1\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29080/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29080/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-29080","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29080/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-29080","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3","PYSEC-2026-528"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["data_read","data_modify"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":true,"product_category":"Rucio data management","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"Authenticated users can execute arbitrary SQL on Oracle deployments via the DID search API, exposing sensitive data and allowing database modification.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"sql_injection"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"rucio","vendor":"cern"}],"cvss":{"score":9.4,"severity":"critical","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","version":"4.0"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-89","name":"Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command"}],"description":"A SQL injection vulnerability in `FilterEngine.create_sqla_query()` allows any authenticated Rucio user to execute arbitrary SQL against the backend database through the DID search endpoint (`GET /dids/\u003cscope\u003e/dids/search`). On Oracle deployments attacker-controlled filter keys and values are interpolated directly into `sqlalchemy.text()` via Python `.format()`, completely bypassing parameterization. This enables full database compromise including extraction of authentication tokens, password hashes, and all managed data identifiers. This affects versions 1.27.0 and later before 35.8.5, 38.5.5, 39.4.2, and 40.1.1.\n\nThe vulnerability exists in `lib/rucio/core/did_meta_plugins/filter_engine.py` within the `create_sqla_query()` method. When the database dialect is Oracle, filter expressions for JSON metadata columns are constructed using `text()` with Python string formatting. Both `key` and `value` are attacker-controlled strings derived from HTTP query parameters. The `text()` function creates a raw SQL fragment — it does **not** escape or parameterize its contents.\n\nAny authenticated Rucio user can exploit this through the DID search API to execute arbitrary SQL against the backend database. This can expose all managed data identifiers and sensitive tables such as identities, tokens, accounts, rse_settings, and rules, and may allow modification of database contents. The issue affects Oracle deployments using the default json_meta plugin and does not affect PostgreSQL or MySQL deployments using that plugin. \n\nThis vulnerability has been fixed in versions 35.8.5, 38.5.5, 39.4.2, and 40.1.1.","ecosystems":["PyPI"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Rucio SQL Injection in FilterEngine Oracle JSON Path via DID Search API","id":"CVE-2026-29080","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"PyPI","product":null,"products":[],"type":"sql_injection","year":"2026"},"n_packages":9,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Frappe: Possibility of SQL Injection due to improper fieldname sanitization","id":"CVE-2026-29081"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["35.8.5","38.5.5","39.4.2","40.1.1"],"introduced":["1.27.0","36.0.0","39.0.0","40.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":"pkg:pypi/rucio","source":"PYSEC-2026-528"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["35.8.5"],"introduced":["1.27.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["35.8.5"],"introduced":["1.27.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":"pkg:pypi/rucio","source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["38.5.5"],"introduced":["36.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["38.5.5"],"introduced":["36.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":"pkg:pypi/rucio","source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["39.4.2"],"introduced":["39.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["39.4.2"],"introduced":["39.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":"pkg:pypi/rucio","source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["40.1.1"],"introduced":["40.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","fixed":["40.1.1"],"introduced":["40.0.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"rucio","purl":"pkg:pypi/rucio","source":"GHSA-vjr5-c9qv-hgm3"}],"prev":{"headline":"Type Confusion in Lexbor Fragment Parser","id":"CVE-2026-29079"},"products":["rucio"],"published":"2026-05-06","related":[{"cvss_score":9,"headline":"Rucio SQL injection in postgres_meta DID search path compromises PostgreSQL metadata database","id":"CVE-2026-29090","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-05-06"},{"cvss_score":8.1,"headline":"Rucio WebUI has a Reflected Cross-site Scripting Vulnerability","id":"CVE-2026-25136","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-25"},{"cvss_score":7.3,"headline":"Rucio WebUI Vulnerable to Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) through Custom Rule Function","id":"CVE-2026-25733","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-25"},{"cvss_score":6.1,"headline":"Rucio WebUI has Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) in RSE Metadata","id":"CVE-2026-25734","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-25"},{"cvss_score":6.1,"headline":"Rucio WebUI has a Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability its Identity Name","id":"CVE-2026-25735","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-25"},{"cvss_score":6.1,"headline":"Rucio WebUI has a Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) Vulnerability in its Custom RSE Attribute","id":"CVE-2026-25736","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-02-25"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"PyPA Advisory Database","prefix":"PYSEC"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-05-06","vendors":["rucio"]},"summary":"Authenticated users can execute arbitrary SQL on Oracle deployments via the DID search API, exposing sensitive data and allowing database modification.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29080/"}
