An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-29112 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- @dicebear/converter (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 9.4.0\n- @dicebear/converter (npm): affected all versions; fixed in 9.4.0\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29112/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29112/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-29112","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29112/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-29112","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-v3r3-4qgc-vw66"],"analysis":{"component_type":"library","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"JavaScript avatar library","requires_auth":"none","summary":"An attacker can cause denial of service by supplying crafted SVGs with excessive dimensions to the DiceBear converter, forcing excessive memory allocation.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"dicebear","vendor":"dicebear"}],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-770","name":"Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling"}],"description":"DiceBear is an avatar library for designers and developers. Prior to version 9.4.0, the `ensureSize()` function in `@dicebear/converter` read the `width` and `height` attributes from the input SVG to determine the output canvas size for rasterization (PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF). An attacker who can supply a crafted SVG with extremely large dimensions (e.g. `width=\"999999999\"`) could force the server to allocate excessive memory, leading to denial of service. This primarily affects server-side applications that pass untrusted or user-supplied SVGs to the converter's `toPng()`, `toJpeg()`, `toWebp()`, or `toAvif()` functions. Applications that only convert self-generated DiceBear avatars are not practically exploitable, but are still recommended to upgrade. This is fixed in version 9.4.0. The `ensureSize()` function no longer reads SVG attributes to determine output size. Instead, a new `size` option (default: 512, max: 2048) controls the output dimensions. Invalid values (NaN, negative, zero, Infinity) fall back to the default. If upgrading is not immediately possible, validate and sanitize the `width` and `height` attributes of any untrusted SVG input before passing it to the converter.","ecosystems":["npm"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"@dicebear/converter vulnerable to ncontrolled memory allocation via crafted SVG dimensions","id":"CVE-2026-29112","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"npm","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2026"},"n_packages":2,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Craft has a potential information disclosure vulnerability in preview tokens","id":"CVE-2026-29113"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["9.4.0"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"@dicebear/converter","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-v3r3-4qgc-vw66"},{"ecosystem":"npm","fixed":["9.4.0"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"@dicebear/converter","purl":"pkg:npm/%40dicebear/converter","source":"GHSA-v3r3-4qgc-vw66"}],"prev":{"headline":"systemd: Local unprivileged user can trigger an assert","id":"CVE-2026-29111"},"products":["dicebear"],"published":"2026-03-18","related":[{"cvss_score":7.5,"headline":"@dicebear/converter ensureSize() Vulnerable to SVG Dimension Capping Bypass via XML Comment Injection","id":"CVE-2026-33418","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-03-24"},{"cvss_score":4.7,"headline":"@dicebear/core and @dicebear/initials Vulnerable to SVG Injection via Unsanitized Options","id":"CVE-2026-33311","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-03-24"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-03-18","vendors":["dicebear"]},"summary":"An attacker can cause denial of service by supplying crafted SVGs with excessive dimensions to the DiceBear converter, forcing excessive memory allocation.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-29112/"}
