## What is CVE-2026-29778?

CVE-2026-29778 is a high-severity path traversal vulnerability in pyload, published on 7 Mar 2026. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

pyLoad is a free and open-source download manager written in Python. From version 0.5.0b3.dev13 to 0.5.0b3.dev96, the edit_package() function implements insufficient sanitization for the pack_folder parameter. The current protection relies on a single-pass string replacement of "../", which can be bypassed using crafted recursive traversal sequences. This issue has been patched in version 0.5.0b3.dev97.

Weakness: CWE-23 (Relative Path Traversal)

## Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-29778?

3 open source packages ship an affected version, including pyload-ng. It affects 1 product.

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2026-29778 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2026-29778 is a high-severity path traversal vulnerability in pyload, published on 7 Mar 2026. Any signed-in user can exploit it over the network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2026-29778 exists.
Affected packages and fixed versions:
- pyload-ng (PyPI): affected from 0.5.0b3.dev13; fixed in 0.5.0b3.dev97
- pyload-ng (PyPI): affected from 0.5.0b3.dev13; fixed in 0.5.0b3.dev97
- pyload-ng (PyPI): affected from 0.5.0b3.dev13; fixed in 0.5.0b3.dev97
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
