It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-41134 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota (NuGet): affected all versions; fixed in 1.29.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota (NuGet): affected all versions; fixed in 1.29.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota (NuGet): affected from 1.30.0; fixed in 1.31.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota (NuGet): affected from 1.30.0; fixed in 1.31.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder (NuGet): affected all versions; fixed in 1.29.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder (NuGet): affected all versions; fixed in 1.29.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder (NuGet): affected from 1.30.0; fixed in 1.31.1\n- Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder (NuGet): affected from 1.30.0; fixed in 1.31.1\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-41134/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-41134/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-41134","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-41134/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-41134","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"],"analysis":{"component_type":"developer_tool","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["code_execution"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"OpenAPI code generator","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Attackers can inject malicious code into generated clients via untrusted OpenAPI descriptions, requiring developers to upgrade Kiota and regenerate clients.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"code_injection"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"kiota","vendor":"microsoft"}],"cvss":{"score":7.3,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","version":"4.0"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-94","name":"Improper Control of Generation of Code"}],"description":"Kiota is an OpenAPI based HTTP Client code generator. Versions prior to 1.29.1 and 1.31.1 are affected by a code-generation literal injection vulnerability in multiple writer sinks (for example: serialization/deserialization keys, path/query parameter mappings, URL template metadata, enum/property metadata, and default value emission). When malicious values from an OpenAPI description are emitted into generated source without context-appropriate escaping, an attacker can break out of string literals and inject additional code into generated clients. This issue is only practically exploitable when the OpenAPI description used for generation is from an untrusted source, or a normally trusted OpenAPI description has been compromised/tampered with. Only generating from trusted, integrity-protected API descriptions significantly reduces the risk. To remediate the issue, upgrade Kiota to 1.29.1, 1.31.1, or later and regenerate/refresh existing generated clients as a precaution. Refreshing generated clients ensures previously generated vulnerable code is replaced with hardened output.","ecosystems":["NuGet"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Kiota: Code Generation Literal Injection","id":"CVE-2026-41134","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"NuGet","product":null,"products":[],"type":"code_injection","year":"2026"},"n_packages":8,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"free5GC PCF: Memory Leak via CORS Middleware Registration in HTTP Handler Leads to Denial of Service","id":"CVE-2026-41135"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.29.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.29.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","purl":"pkg:nuget/Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.31.1"],"introduced":["1.30.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.31.1"],"introduced":["1.30.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","purl":"pkg:nuget/Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota","source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.29.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.29.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","purl":"pkg:nuget/Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.31.1"],"introduced":["1.30.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","fixed":["1.31.1"],"introduced":["1.30.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","purl":"pkg:nuget/Microsoft.OpenApi.Kiota.Builder","source":"GHSA-2hx3-vp6r-mg3f"}],"prev":{"headline":"pyLoad has Stale Session Privilege After Role/Permission Change (Privilege Revocation Bypass)","id":"CVE-2026-41133"},"products":["kiota"],"published":"2026-04-22","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-08-17","vendors":["microsoft"]},"summary":"Attackers can inject malicious code into generated clients via untrusted OpenAPI descriptions, requiring developers to upgrade Kiota and regenerate clients.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-41134/"}
