An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim."},"fix_prompt":"Check this codebase for CVE-2026-42882 and fix it if it is affected.\n\nWhat it is: CVE-2026-42882 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in oxyno-zeta s3-proxy, published on 11 May 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2026-42882 exists.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a\n- github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a\n- github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy (Go): affected all versions; fixed in 0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-42882/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-42882/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-42882","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-42882/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-42882","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-rfgq-wgg8-662p","GO-2026-5616"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["data_read","data_modify"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"S3 proxy server","requires_auth":"none","summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can bypass authentication to read, write, or delete S3 objects due to path matching inconsistencies.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"auth_bypass"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":9.4,"severity":"critical","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:L","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-863","name":"Incorrect Authorization"},{"id":"CWE-22","name":"Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory"}],"description":"oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy is an aws s3 proxy written in go. Prior to 5.0.0, s3-proxy contains an authentication bypass caused by inconsistent URL path interpretation between the authentication middleware and the bucket handler. The authentication middleware evaluates resource path patterns against the percent-encoded request URI (r.URL.RequestURI()), while the bucket handler constructs S3 object keys from the decoded path (r.URL.Path). This mismatch, combined with the glob library being invoked without a path separator (causing * to match across / boundaries), allows unauthenticated attackers to write to, read from, or delete objects in protected S3 namespaces. Exploitation is possible via three techniques: (1) using * patterns\nthat match across path separators to reach protected routes via path traversal (e.g., /open/foo/drafts/../restricted/), (2) using percent-encoded slashes (%2F) to collapse multiple path segments into a single token at the auth layer while the decoded form resolves to a protected namespace at the storage layer, and (3) using dot-dot segments (../) under ** prefix patterns, where the raw path matches an open route while Go's URL parser resolves the traversal to a protected path before the bucket handler runs. An unauthenticated attacker with network access can perform unauthorized PUT, GET, or DELETE operations on objects in authentication-protected S3 namespaces. This vulnerability is fixed in 5.0.0.","ecosystems":["Go"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"weaponised"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy: Security Issues in Resource Path Matching","id":"CVE-2026-42882","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"auth_bypass","year":"2026"},"n_packages":3,"n_references":3,"next":{"headline":"Audiobookshelf: Cross-library file exfiltration via unscoped bulk download endpoint","id":"CVE-2026-42883"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-rfgq-wgg8-662p"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy","source":"GHSA-rfgq-wgg8-662p"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.0.0-20260424211602-1320e4abd46a"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/oxyno-zeta/s3-proxy","source":"GO-2026-5616"}],"prev":{"headline":"STIGQter: Arbitrary File Write leading to Local Code Execution via Export HTML","id":"CVE-2026-42881"},"products":["s3-proxy"],"published":"2026-05-11","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"poc","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-05-13","vendors":["oxyno-zeta"]},"summary":"Unauthenticated attackers can bypass authentication to read, write, or delete S3 objects due to path matching inconsistencies.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-42882/"}
