An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, and only if a user opens a file or follows a link.\nExploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2026-48102 exists.\n\nAffected product: mcmilk 7-Zip. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48102/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48102/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-48102","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48102/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-48102","record":{"aliases":["ALPINE-CVE-2026-48102","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-48102","ECHO-ebb4-90fc-823e","MINI-2vgp-32mj-p6x8","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-48102"],"analysis":{"component_type":"desktop_application","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["data_read","denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"7-Zip archiver","requires_auth":"none","summary":"A heap out-of-bounds read in 7-Zip's UDF handler allows attackers to disclose limited memory data or cause crashes via crafted ISO/UDF images.","user_interaction":"required","vuln_class":"information_disclosure"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[{"product":"7-zip","vendor":"7-zip"}],"cvss":{"score":3.1,"severity":"low","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-125","name":"Out-of-bounds Read"}],"description":"7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. Versions 9.11 through 26.00 contain a heap out-of-bounds read of up to 3 bytes in the UDF disc image handler's File Identifier Descriptor parser. In CFileId::Parse (CPP/7zip/Archive/Udf/UdfIn.cpp), after validating size \u003c 38 + idLen + impLen and advancing processed to 38 + impLen + idLen, the alignment-padding loop reads p[processed] while incrementing up to 3 times to reach a 4-byte boundary, and the processed \u003c= size bounds check only runs after the loop. When (38 + impLen + idLen) % 4 != 0 and 38 + impLen + idLen == size, the loop reads 1 to 3 bytes past the end of the exact-size heap buffer allocated via buf.Alloc((size_t)item.Size). The UDF handler is registered for .iso and .udf files and auto-detected by signature, and the OOB read triggers during Open() when listing or extracting a crafted UDF image. Impact is limited to information disclosure (a 1-bit oracle per OOB byte via open/fail behavior) and denial of service (crash under hardened allocators); there is no write primitive. Version 26.01 fixes the issue.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"weaponised"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"GHSL-2026-118: 7-Zip UDF Field OOB Read","id":"CVE-2026-48102","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"information_disclosure","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"GHSL-2026-119 7-Zip WIM SecurityId OOB read","id":"CVE-2026-48103"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"GHSL-2026-117: 7-Zip UEFI Capsule uninitialized heap memory disclosure","id":"CVE-2026-48101"},"products":["7-Zip"],"published":"2026-06-05","related":[{"cvss_score":7,"headline":"7-Zip Mark of the Web Bypass","id":"CVE-2025-0411","kev_date_added":"2025-02-06","published":"2025-01-25"},{"cvss_score":10,"headline":"Other in n/a","id":"CVE-2008-6536","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2009-03-30"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"GHSL-2026-140_7-Zip: 7-Zip has a heap buffer overflow via NTFS compressed stream buffer under-allocation","id":"CVE-2026-48095","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2026-06-05"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Privilege escalation in n/a","id":"CVE-2018-10172","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2018-04-16"},{"cvss_score":8.8,"headline":"Memory corruption in n/a","id":"CVE-2016-2335","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2016-06-07"},{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"7-Zip Zstandard Decompression Integer Underflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability","id":"CVE-2024-11477","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2024-11-22"},{"cvss_score":7.8,"headline":"7-Zip SquashFS File Parsing Out-Of-Bounds Write Remote Code Execution Vulnerability","id":"CVE-2023-40481","kev_date_added":null,"published":"2024-05-03"}],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"US public information, NVD API terms","name":"NVD"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-06-09","vendors":["mcmilk"]},"summary":"A heap out-of-bounds read in 7-Zip's UDF handler allows attackers to disclose limited memory data or cause crashes via crafted ISO/UDF images.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48102/"}
