An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-48702 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/sigstore/rekor (Go): affected from 0.3.0; fixed in 1.5.2\n- github.com/sigstore/rekor (Go): affected from 0.3.0; fixed in 1.5.2\n- github.com/sigstore/rekor (Go): affected from 0.3.0; fixed in 1.5.2\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48702/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48702/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-48702","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48702/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-48702","record":{"aliases":["CLEANSTART-2026-BT80684","CLEANSTART-2026-UK76839","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-48702","GHSA-47q9-m4ww-924m","GO-2026-5778","MINI-262p-9mfq-x47r","MINI-2mjr-fc9q-8gx3","MINI-2p4f-hphh-5999","MINI-2pcg-g68g-q46f","MINI-2q7v-pv93-m693","MINI-2v36-pmmg-v9x5","MINI-2v4f-6299-hc45","MINI-3h6x-6wrj-hf37","MINI-3v39-p98g-3vjg","MINI-3wh8-5jxc-f2r9","MINI-46g2-qq9m-ffqg","MINI-52cv-95rh-c6c4","MINI-546r-jg95-vx6r","MINI-54p2-xhfw-j7gh","MINI-56pf-3jjw-7q42","MINI-5772-8xfw-6jfp","MINI-59mw-jmc8-wv49","MINI-5gm4-3xq9-cfqm","MINI-5jjv-jrv7-cqpj","MINI-5p69-p7hj-9779","MINI-5x2w-4665-7pc7","MINI-6ggm-3f39-5m3v","MINI-6r7g-w445-585m","MINI-6v2r-gvpf-j47r","MINI-73v5-rcf4-xrv4","MINI-7vv9-cpjx-954m","MINI-8j8h-8q25-2xg4","MINI-8rh3-c5jx-xmp6","MINI-c5cg-hhc7-f4qm","MINI-c5gf-9rx7-89fw","MINI-c8qj-cwhf-mv68","MINI-c9x8-7v4x-3jmx","MINI-crxj-jh9q-63pf","MINI-f645-vf77-h376","MINI-f66w-4r26-7833","MINI-fccg-j5m7-r3r8","MINI-fv8x-qh62-83r7","MINI-g536-2xv3-f6mc","MINI-gc7f-hwcx-5hv3","MINI-gr3x-cwg5-v2p3","MINI-grhp-mmv6-9fvv","MINI-gvxf-3gq2-v6hv","MINI-gwhv-5247-xmgh","MINI-h24w-9hqh-fwq3","MINI-h2hm-827m-g5g5","MINI-hmjp-4p7v-7rpq","MINI-hv2g-wr3c-p778","MINI-j4xr-47qh-5jgh","MINI-j8c7-vw62-rgpj","MINI-jcwm-923x-xv8p","MINI-jmh9-gcf4-g9jg","MINI-p5wg-4f8f-r364","MINI-pgvh-cmj2-34r7","MINI-ph23-wq8g-6hw8","MINI-pvq6-jqj6-f5q3","MINI-q5m2-375r-wg7p","MINI-q8qc-c5f2-p8f5","MINI-q8vr-7jhx-h95w","MINI-qrvj-wwjc-r73f","MINI-r55q-v3px-673p","MINI-rgph-v5qx-3h52","MINI-vxvh-fm97-jvh9","MINI-wrm5-9r79-r8gg","MINI-wxr8-f454-h8hf","MINI-x55v-mhmj-3fg9","MINI-xp2h-fx9v-v7h2","MINI-xp2w-6jrx-fj3p","MINI-xwq4-pgj2-w5p5","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-48702","openSUSE-SU-2026:11154-1"],"analysis":{"component_type":"server_software","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Supply chain transparency log","requires_auth":"none","summary":"An attacker can cause a denial of service in Rekor by submitting a crafted Alpine APK file that triggers unbounded memory consumption during gzip decompression.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-770","name":"Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling"}],"description":"Rekor is a software supply chain transparency log. Starting in version 0.3.0 and prior to version 1.5.2, the `Package.Unmarshal()` function in `pkg/types/alpine/apk.go` decompresses the signature and control gzip members of an APK file into in-memory buffers without bounding the total decompressed size. The existing `max_apk_metadata_size` check (default 1MB) is only applied to individual tar entry header sizes after decompression completes, so it does not prevent a decompression bomb from consuming unbounded heap memory. An attacker can craft a gzip stream that compresses at a ~1000:1 ratio (e.g., 2MB compressed zeros → 2GB decompressed). When submitted as spec.package.content in an Alpine `ProposedEntry`, the server decompresses the full payload into memory during request processing, triggering a fatal Go runtime out-of-memory error or OS OOM-kill that cannot be caught by the server's recover() middleware. This is reachable via two unauthenticated endpoints, `POST /api/v1/log/entries (createLogEntry)` and `POST /api/v1/log/entries/retrieve (searchLogQuery)`. Both invoke `V001Entry.Canonicalize()` → `fetchExternalEntities()` → `apk.Unmarshal(packageData)`, which performs the unbounded decompression. Version 1.5.2 patches the issue. There is no effective workaround. Setting `max_request_body_size` reduces but does not eliminate exposure due to the ~1000:1 compression ratio (a 1MB body limit still allows ~1GB heap allocation). Setting `max_apk_metadata_size` has no effect on this vulnerability since the check is applied after decompression.","ecosystems":["Go","openSUSE:Tumbleweed"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Rekor has an OOM Condition due to Unbounded gzip Decompression in Alpine APK Parsing Logic","id":"CVE-2026-48702","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2026"},"n_packages":4,"n_references":1,"next":{"headline":"Warp: Command Injection via Warp code search tool arguments","id":"CVE-2026-48703"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["1.5.2"],"introduced":["0.3.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/sigstore/rekor","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-47q9-m4ww-924m"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["1.5.2"],"introduced":["0.3.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/sigstore/rekor","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/sigstore/rekor","source":"GHSA-47q9-m4ww-924m"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["1.5.2"],"introduced":["0.3.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/sigstore/rekor","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/sigstore/rekor","source":"GO-2026-5778"},{"ecosystem":"openSUSE:Tumbleweed","fixed":["2.0.1-1.1"],"introduced":["0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"hauler","purl":"pkg:rpm/opensuse/hauler\u0026distro=openSUSE%20Tumbleweed","source":"openSUSE-SU-2026:11154-1"}],"prev":{"headline":"Code injection in PCManFM-Qt","id":"CVE-2026-48700"},"products":["rekor"],"published":"2026-08-13","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"SUSE","prefix":"openSUSE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-08-13","vendors":["sigstore"]},"summary":"An attacker can cause a denial of service in Rekor by submitting a crafted Alpine APK file that triggers unbounded memory consumption during gzip decompression.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-48702/"}
