An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim."},"fix_prompt":"Check this codebase for CVE-2026-53941 and fix it if it is affected.\n\nWhat it is: CVE-2026-53941 is a medium-severity denial of service vulnerability in inspektor-gadget, published on 15 Sep 2026. An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-53941 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected packages and fixed versions:\n- github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget (Go): affected from 0.27.0; fixed in 0.53.1\n- github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget (Go): affected from 0.27.0; fixed in 0.53.1\n- github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget (Go): affected from 0.27.0; fixed in 0.53.1\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-53941/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-53941/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-53941","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-53941/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-53941","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-vjhx-2cqw-3q6q","GO-2026-6254"],"analysis":{"component_type":"container_or_infrastructure","fix_type":"upgrade","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Kubernetes eBPF tool","requires_auth":"none","summary":"An unprivileged container can cause high CPU usage and block other container startups by providing a crafted ld.so.cache file while an uprobe gadget is active.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"GitHub_M","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":6.9,"severity":"medium","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","version":"4.0"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-770","name":"Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling"}],"description":"Inspektor Gadget is a set of tools and framework for data collection and system inspection on Kubernetes clusters and Linux hosts using eBPF. From 0.27.0 until 0.53.1, the uprobe library resolver can allow an unprivileged container to consume excessive CPU and block other containers from starting by supplying a crafted /etc/ld.so.cache file while an uprobe-based gadget is active. The parser in pkg/uprobetracer/ldcache_parser.go trusts EntryCount enough to perform excessive iteration, computes cache1Len with overflowing uint32 arithmetic, and repeatedly calls readStringFromBytes in pkg/uprobetracer/bytes.go, where byte-by-byte immutable string concatenation produces quadratic work. While this processing occurs, pkg/container-hook holds the fanotify container-start pause, allowing a crafted cache to delay startup for roughly a minute, prevent Docker from starting other containers, and degrade monitoring. Processing caches from already-running containers can still consume CPU but does not hold the new-container startup pause, and the advisory establishes no confidentiality or integrity impact. This issue is fixed in version 0.53.1.","ecosystems":["Go"],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"Uprobe gadgets: unprivileged container's ld.so.cache causes high CPU utilization and container startup DoS","id":"CVE-2026-53941","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":"Go","product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2026"},"n_packages":3,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"Conda Organization Infrastructure is a centralized location for infrastructure codes.","id":"CVE-2026-53942"},"packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.53.1"],"introduced":["0.27.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget","purl":null,"source":"GHSA-vjhx-2cqw-3q6q"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.53.1"],"introduced":["0.27.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget","source":"GHSA-vjhx-2cqw-3q6q"},{"ecosystem":"Go","fixed":["0.53.1"],"introduced":["0.27.0"],"last_affected":[],"package":"github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget","source":"GO-2026-6254"}],"prev":{"headline":"Conda: Entry-point path traversal in noarch:python install (arbitrary file write) — canonical Python implementation","id":"CVE-2026-53940"},"products":["inspektor-gadget"],"published":"2026-09-15","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"GitHub Advisory Database","prefix":"GHSA"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CC BY 4.0","name":"Go Vulnerability Database","prefix":"GO"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"partial"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-09-16","vendors":["inspektor-gadget"]},"summary":"An unprivileged container can cause high CPU usage and block other container startups by providing a crafted ld.so.cache file while an uprobe gadget is active.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-53941/"}
