It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-74650 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74650/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74650/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-74650","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74650/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-74650","record":{"aliases":["BELL-CVE-2026-74650","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-74650","GHSA-96vf-829x-rg43","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74650"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["data_read"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel driver","requires_auth":"none","summary":"A remote attacker can trigger an out-of-bounds read in the rtl8723bs Wi-Fi driver by sending a malformed association response, potentially leaking kernel memory.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"information_disclosure"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":null,"severity":null,"source":null,"vector":null,"version":null},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nstaging: rtl8723bs: fix OOB read in WMM_param_handler()\n\nWMM_param_handler() copies a fixed-size WMM parameter element out of a\nreceived information element without checking that the element is long\nenough, causing an out-of-bounds read for a short WMM IE.\n\nThe handler reads sizeof(struct WMM_para_element) (18) bytes at\npIE-\u003edata + 6, so it requires pIE-\u003elength to be at least 24\n(WLAN_WMM_LEN), but it never validates the length. Two of its three\ncallers reach it after matching only the WMM OUI: OnAssocRsp() in\nrtw_mlme_ext.c matches a 6-byte OUI, and join_cmd_hdl() matches a\n4-byte OUI, before calling the handler. A vendor-specific IE carrying\nthe WMM OUI but a length between 6 and 23, placed in an association\nresponse or in the IE blob handed to join_cmd_hdl(), passes the OUI\ncheck and then makes the memcmp() and memcpy() at pIE-\u003edata + 6 read\npast the end of the element. OnAssocRsp() parses a frame received from\nthe AP, so this is reachable from a remote peer.\n\nThe remaining caller in rtw_wlan_util.c already guards the handler with\n\"pIE-\u003elength == WLAN_WMM_LEN\". Move the equivalent check into the\nhandler itself so every caller is covered; the sibling IE handlers in\nthe same parsing loop (HT_caps_handler(), HT_info_handler(),\nERP_IE_handler()) likewise bound their accesses by pIE-\u003elength.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"staging: rtl8723bs: fix OOB read in WMM_param_handler()","id":"CVE-2026-74650","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"information_disclosure","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":8,"next":{"headline":"staging: rtl8723bs: fix OOB read in rtw_get_wpa_ie()","id":"CVE-2026-74651"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"staging: rtl8723bs: fix missing shared-key auth challenge length check","id":"CVE-2026-74649"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-08-22","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-08-27","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A remote attacker can trigger an out-of-bounds read in the rtl8723bs Wi-Fi driver by sending a malformed association response, potentially leaking kernel memory.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74650/"}
