An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-74751 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74751/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74751/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-74751","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74751/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-74751","record":{"aliases":["DEBIAN-CVE-2026-74751","GHSA-ghc8-jmvh-q86v","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74751"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel","requires_auth":"none","summary":"A boundary check error in the RISC-V ZBB strnlen implementation can cause a kernel fault when reading near page boundaries, leading to denial of service.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"denial_of_service"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":9.4,"severity":"critical","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nriscv: lib: Fix ZBB strnlen reading past count boundary\n\nThe ZBB-optimized strnlen loop loads one word ahead before checking the\naligned boundary:\n\n    REG_L   t1, SZREG(t0)       // load next word\n    addi    t0, t0, SZREG       // advance\n    orc.b   t1, t1\n    bgeu    t0, t4, 4f          // boundary check AFTER load\n\nwhere t4 = (s + count) \u0026 -SZREG.  When s is aligned and count is a\nmultiple of SZREG, t4 equals s + count and the loop loads a full word\nstarting at exactly s + count.  If s + count falls on a page boundary\nwith the next page unmapped, this faults.\n\nFix by computing the aligned boundary from the last valid byte\n(s + count - 1) instead of s + count.  This makes the loop stop at the\nword containing the last valid byte rather than potentially loading the\nword after it.  The count == 0 case is already handled by the beqz\nearly exit.\n\nAlso add a pre-loop guard (bgeu t0, t4) for the case where all valid\nbytes fit within the first word.  With the adjusted boundary, t4 can\nequal t0, and entering the loop with stale register state from the\nfirst-word processing would produce incorrect results.\n\nThe final minu clamp ensures the result is still correct when the last\nloaded word extends past s + count - 1 within the same aligned word.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"riscv: lib: Fix ZBB strnlen reading past count boundary","id":"CVE-2026-74751","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"denial_of_service","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":2,"next":{"headline":"sctp: validate cookie AUTH state before use","id":"CVE-2026-74752"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"ovpn: defer key slot crypto freeing to workqueue","id":"CVE-2026-74750"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-08-26","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-08-27","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A boundary check error in the RISC-V ZBB strnlen implementation can cause a kernel fault when reading near page boundaries, leading to denial of service.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-74751/"}
