## What is CVE-2026-8213?

CVE-2026-8213 is a medium-severity memory corruption vulnerability in OSGeo gdal, published on 9 May 2026. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

A vulnerability has been found in OSGeo gdal up to 3.13.0dev-4. Affected by this issue is the function GDSDfldsrch of the file frmts/hdf4/hdf-eos/GDapi.c of the component Grid File Handler. The manipulation leads to heap-based buffer overflow. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploit has been disclosed to the public and may be used. Upgrading to version 3.13.0RC1 can resolve this issue. The identifier of the patch is 3e04c0385630e4d42517046d9a4967dfccfeb7fd. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Weakness: CWE-125 (Out-of-bounds Read), CWE-122 (Heap-based Buffer Overflow), CWE-119 (Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer)

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
Check this codebase for CVE-2026-8213 and fix it if it is affected.
What it is: CVE-2026-8213 is a medium-severity memory corruption vulnerability in OSGeo gdal, published on 9 May 2026. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: It is not confirmed as exploited in the wild, but public exploit code for CVE-2026-8213 exists.
Affected packages and fixed versions:
- gdal (Bitnami): affected all versions; fixed in 3.13.0
- gdal (PyPI): affected all versions; fixed in 3.13.0
Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
