An attacker can exploit it over the internet without logging in, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-89702 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89702/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89702/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-89702","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89702/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-89702","record":{"aliases":["AZL-100449","BELL-CVE-2026-89702","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-89702","GHSA-vwc6-74mr-xh83","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89702"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["data_read","denial_of_service"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"Linux kernel NFS","requires_auth":"none","summary":"A buffer overflow in Linux kernel NFS tracepoints allows attackers to leak memory or cause denial of service via crafted UDP requests.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"memory_corruption"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":9.8,"severity":"critical","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnfsd: size fh_verify server sockaddr slot by xpt_locallen\n\nThe nfsd_fh_verify and nfsd_fh_verify_err tracepoints declare the\nserver sockaddr slot sized by xpt_remotelen but fill it from\nxpt_local using xpt_locallen:\n\n    TP_STRUCT__entry(\n            ...\n            __sockaddr(server, rqstp-\u003erq_xprt-\u003expt_remotelen)\n            ...\n    )\n    TP_fast_assign(\n            ...\n            __assign_sockaddr(server, \u0026rqstp-\u003erq_xprt-\u003expt_local,\n                              rqstp-\u003erq_xprt-\u003expt_locallen);\n            ...\n    )\n\nWhen xpt_locallen exceeds xpt_remotelen, __assign_sockaddr's memcpy\nwrites past the reserved ring-buffer slot. In the reverse direction\n(xpt_locallen \u003c xpt_remotelen) the slot is oversized and the\nunwritten tail leaks prior ring-buffer contents to trace consumers.\n\nThe write-past-end case is reachable on NFS/UDP. svc_xprt_set_remote()\nis only called from svc_tcp_accept() (net/sunrpc/svcsock.c) and from\nthe RDMA connect path; svc_create_socket() for UDP calls only\nsvc_xprt_set_local(), so xpt_remotelen stays 0 for the xprt's\nlifetime. Every fh_verify trace for an NFSv2/v3-over-UDP request\nthen copies 16 or 28 bytes from xpt_local into a zero-byte slot.\n\nThe other NFSD tracepoints that record the server address\n(NFSD_TRACE_PROC_CALL_FIELDS, NFSD_TRACE_PROC_RES_FIELDS,\nSVC_RQST_ENDPOINT_FIELDS) already size the server slot by\nxpt_locallen; nfsd_fh_verify and nfsd_fh_verify_err were the only\nexceptions.\n\nFix by sizing the server slot with xpt_locallen so the declared slot\nmatches the copy length. The client slot and its assignment already\nagree on xpt_remotelen and are left untouched.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"nfsd: size fh_verify server sockaddr slot by xpt_locallen","id":"CVE-2026-89702","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"memory_corruption","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":5,"next":{"headline":"nfsd: set SC_STATUS_FREED in nfsd4_drop_revoked_stid for delegations","id":"CVE-2026-89703"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"nfsd: validate nseconds in TIME_DELEG decode paths","id":"CVE-2026-89701"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-09-11","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-21","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A buffer overflow in Linux kernel NFS tracepoints allows attackers to leak memory or cause denial of service via crafted UDP requests.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89702/"}
