No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89706/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89706/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-89706","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89706/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-89706","record":{"aliases":["AZL-100868","BELL-CVE-2026-89706","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-89706","GHSA-gfmq-vxg4-w276","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89706"],"analysis":null,"analysis_generated_by":null,"assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnfsd: Reset write verifier when async COPY writeback fails\n\nAsync COPY captures nn-\u003ewriteverf at request time and reports it to\nthe client via CB_OFFLOAD after the worker kthread completes. When\nthe post-copy vfs_fsync_range() or filemap_check_wb_err() in\n_nfsd_copy_file_range() reports an error, the worker correctly\nleaves NFSD4_COPY_F_COMMITTED clear so that CB_OFFLOAD encodes\nwr_stable_how as NFS_UNSTABLE, but the server's write verifier is\nnot rotated.\n\nA client that receives NFS_UNSTABLE in CB_OFFLOAD follows up with\nCOMMIT to make the copied data durable. With the verifier\nunchanged, COMMIT returns the same value the client just received\nvia CB_OFFLOAD, and the client concludes the copy is durable --\nsilently dropping the data whose writeback in fact failed. This\nviolates the UNSTABLE+COMMIT durability contract (RFC 7862 section\n15.1, RFC 8881 section 18.32) and matches the bug just fixed in\nnfsd_vfs_write() and nfsd_commit().\n\nRotate nn-\u003ewriteverf at the writeback-failure site. The async COPY\nworker has no svc_rqst, so commit_reset_write_verifier() is not\navailable here; calling nfsd_reset_write_verifier() directly\nmirrors the trace-less reset already used by\nnfsd_file_check_write_error() for the same purpose. Filter out\n-EAGAIN and -ESTALE, matching commit_reset_write_verifier(), since\nneither indicates a durable-storage failure.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"nfsd: Reset write verifier when async COPY writeback fails","id":"CVE-2026-89706","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":null,"year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":8,"next":{"headline":"nfsd: release path refs on follow_down() error","id":"CVE-2026-89707"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"nfsd: restore rq_status_counter to even on all nfsd_dispatch() exit paths","id":"CVE-2026-89705"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-09-11","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-19","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":null,"url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89706/"}
