It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-89738 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89738/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89738/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-89738","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89738/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-89738","record":{"aliases":["AZL-100542","BELL-CVE-2026-89738","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-89738","GHSA-3f57-g7j5-hj3q","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-89738"],"analysis":{"component_type":"kernel","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["denial_of_service","code_execution"],"network_reachable":"adjacent_or_local","non_default_config":true,"product_category":"Linux kernel USB driver","requires_auth":"low_privilege","summary":"A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's at91_udc USB gadget driver allows attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially execute code during driver unbind.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"use_after_free"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.8,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nusb: gadget: at91_udc: drain polled-VBUS timer/work before udc is freed\n\nIn polled-VBUS mode (board.vbus_pin \u0026\u0026 board.vbus_polled), probe arms a\nself-restarting cycle: at91_vbus_timer() schedules vbus_timer_work, and\nat91_vbus_timer_work() calls at91_vbus_update() and re-arms the timer via\nmod_timer(). Both recover the same udc through container_of and dereference\nit on every iteration.\n\nNeither teardown path cancels this cycle. udc is devm-allocated, so it is\nfreed after at91udc_remove() returns, and is likewise freed when probe\nfails and devres runs. A timer callback or work item that is pending or\nrunning at either point dereferences the freed udc.\n\nAdd at91_udc_shutdown_vbus_timer() and call it from at91udc_remove() and\nfrom the usb_add_gadget_udc() failure path in probe; the remaining probe\nerror paths fail before the timer is armed. timer_shutdown_sync() waits\nfor a running callback and clears timer-\u003efunction, which makes the work\nhandler's mod_timer() a permanent no-op; cancel_work_sync() then drains\nany pending or running work whose re-arm attempt now does nothing. The\ntimer must be shut down first, since cancelling the work alone would let\nthe timer re-queue it. The guard mirrors probe: in IRQ mode the timer and\nwork_struct are never initialized.\n\nThis does not require a fault; a normal driver unbind can interleave with\nan already queued work item.\n\nThis issue was found by an in-house static analysis tool.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"usb: gadget: at91_udc: drain polled-VBUS timer/work before udc is freed","id":"CVE-2026-89738","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"use_after_free","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":5,"next":{"headline":"usb: dwc3: gadget: Fix use-after-free in dwc3_gadget_free_endpoints due to race condition","id":"CVE-2026-89739"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"usb: typec: thunderbolt: Disable work before freeing tbt on remove","id":"CVE-2026-89737"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-09-11","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-21","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":"A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's at91_udc USB gadget driver allows attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially execute code during driver unbind.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-89738/"}
