## What is CVE-2026-93165?

CVE-2026-93165 is a high-severity memory corruption vulnerability in Linux, published on 17 Sep 2026. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.

### Official description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

platform/chrome: sensorhub: Fix memory overread in ring handler

`max_response` and `sensor_num` are read from different EC commands:

- `max_response` is from cros_ec_get_proto_info().
    ec_dev->max_response = info->max_response_packet_size -
                                    sizeof(struct ec_host_response);

- `sensor_num` is from cros_ec_get_sensor_count().
    sensor_num = cros_ec_get_sensor_count(ec);

With a malfunctioning EC firmware, it is possible that the `msg->insize`
(i.e., `fifo_info_length` in the context) could be clamped in
cros_ec_cmd_xfer() because `msg->insize` is greater than `max_response`.

    int fifo_info_length =
            sizeof(struct ec_response_motion_sense_fifo_info) +
            sizeof(u16) * sensorhub->sensor_num;

This means the number of read bytes could be less than expected. As a
result, the subsequent memcpy() in cros_ec_sensorhub_ring_handler()
overreads the `resp->fifo_info` buffer.

Check the return value of cros_ec_cmd_xfer_status() and abort if the
number of bytes read does not match the expected length.

Check this codebase for CVE-2026-93165 and fix it if it is affected.

What it is: CVE-2026-93165 is a high-severity memory corruption vulnerability in Linux, published on 17 Sep 2026. It can only be exploited from the same machine or local network, with no action from the victim.
Exploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-93165 in the wild and no public exploit code.

Affected product: Linux. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.

Task:
1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.
2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.
3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.
4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.
5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.
