An attacker needs administrator access to exploit it, with no action from the victim.\nExploitation: There is no known exploitation of CVE-2026-9834 in the wild and no public exploit code.\n\nAffected product: databasebackup WP Database Backup – Unlimited Database \u0026 Files Backup by Backup for WP. No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-9834/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-9834/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-9834","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-9834/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-9834","record":{"aliases":["GHSA-9g3c-r4j4-8m9r"],"analysis":{"component_type":"cms_plugin","fix_type":"patch","impacts":["code_execution"],"network_reachable":"yes","non_default_config":false,"product_category":"WordPress plugin","requires_auth":"high_privilege","summary":"Authenticated administrators can execute arbitrary OS commands via the exclude-table parameter in the WP Database Backup plugin.","user_interaction":"not_required","vuln_class":"command_injection"},"analysis_generated_by":"qwen3.8-flash-next","assigner":"Wordfence","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.2,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-77","name":"Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command"}],"description":"The WP Database Backup – Unlimited Database \u0026 Files Backup by Backup for WP plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to OS Command Injection in all versions up to and including 7.11 via the `wp_db_exclude_table` parameter. This is due to the direct concatenation of user-supplied `$_POST['wp_db_exclude_table']` values into the `mysqldump` shell command string in the `mysqldump()` function of `includes/admin/class-wpdb-admin.php` without wrapping them in `escapeshellarg()`—every other argument in the same command (DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, host, filename, DB_NAME) is properly escaped, making the exclude-table values the sole exception—and because the only applied filtering, `sanitize_text_field()` via `recursive_sanitize_text_field()`, strips HTML tags but leaves shell metacharacters such as `;`, `|`, `` ` ``, and `$()` intact. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level access and above, to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the server, potentially enabling full remote code execution. The injection is stored: malicious values submitted through the plugin settings form are persisted to the WordPress options table via `update_option('wp_db_exclude_table')` and later retrieved with `get_option()` and passed unsanitized to `shell_exec()` whenever a backup operation runs.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":null,"headline":"WP Database Backup \u003c= 7.11 - Authenticated (Administrator+) OS Command Injection via 'wp_db_exclude_table' Parameter","id":"CVE-2026-9834","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":"command_injection","year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":8,"next":{"headline":"IBM DataStage Flow Designer application is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability","id":"CVE-2026-9836"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"Tag Groups \u003c 2.2.0 - Reflected XSS via 'tag_groups_task' Parameter","id":"CVE-2026-9833"},"products":["WP Database Backup – Unlimited Database \u0026 Files Backup by Backup for WP"],"published":"2026-07-02","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"CWE Terms of Use","name":"CWE (MITRE)"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":"no","exploitation":"none","technical_impact":"total"},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-07-02","vendors":["databasebackup"]},"summary":"Authenticated administrators can execute arbitrary OS commands via the exclude-table parameter in the WP Database Backup plugin.","url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-9834/"}
