No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98982/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98982/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-98982","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98982/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-98982","record":{"aliases":["BELL-CVE-2026-98982","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-98982","GHSA-2rh7-4ph4-xmm5","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98982"],"analysis":null,"analysis_generated_by":null,"assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":7.8,"severity":"high","source":"cna","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnamespace: don't let a pseudo dentry become the root of a mount\n\nd_alloc_pseudo() hands out dentries for pipes, sockets and other files\nthat are never anyone's child or parent. They carry DCACHE_NORCU and\ndentry_free() frees them right away because no lockless path walk can\never reach them. That holds as long as such a dentry isn't the root of\na mount. But bind mounting /proc/self/fd/\u003cfd\u003e of such a file does\nexactly that.\n\nMost callers of alloc_file_pseudo() put their files on kernel-internal\nmounts and may_copy_tree() refuses those. bpf_token_create() doesn't. It\nplaces the token file on the bpffs mount the caller handed it and that\nmount is in the caller's mount namespace so the clone goes through:\n\n  mount --bind /proc/self/fd/\u003ctoken\u003e \u003cfile\u003e\n  open_tree(tokfd, \"\", AT_EMPTY_PATH | OPEN_TREE_CLONE) + move_mount()\n\n__follow_mount_rcu() then loads -\u003emnt_root of that mount, reads d_seq\nand d_flags of the dentry and only then checks mount_lock. The dentry\ncan be gone by then. The final mntput() of an unmounted parent unhooks\na child that stayed attached to it under mount_lock alone. When the\nchild's holder does the final put right after that the root is dput()\nand freed immediately while a walker that found the mount hashed still\nlooks at it.\n\nRefuse to clone a mount with a DCACHE_NORCU dentry as its root. Nothing\nsensible can be done with a bind mount of a bpf token anyway.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"namespace: don't let a pseudo dentry become the root of a mount","id":"CVE-2026-98982","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":null,"year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":4,"next":{"headline":"unshare: don't drop active namespace references that were never taken","id":"CVE-2026-98983"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"namespace: unhash a dentry before detaching the mounts on it","id":"CVE-2026-98981"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-10-23","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"},{"class":"attribution","licence":"FIRST CVSS licence","name":"CVSS (FIRST)"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-24","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":null,"url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98982/"}
