No package-level version data is available, so check the vendor advisory linked from the reference page.\n\nTask:\n1. Search the dependency manifests and lockfiles (for example package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt, poetry.lock, uv.lock, pom.xml, build.gradle, go.mod, Cargo.lock, Gemfile.lock) and any Dockerfiles for the affected packages, including transitive dependencies.\n2. If an affected version is in use, upgrade it to the fixed version for its release line with the project's package manager, so the lockfile is regenerated. Prefer the smallest upgrade that fixes it.\n3. If there is no fix, or the upgrade would break the build, do not guess: explain the risk and the safest workaround instead.\n4. Run the tests and summarise what changed and why.\n5. If nothing in the project is affected, say so and change nothing.\n\nReference: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98992/ (Markdown: https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98992/index.md)","id":"CVE-2026-98992","markdown":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98992/index.md","name":"CVE-2026-98992","record":{"aliases":["AZL-110831","BELL-CVE-2026-98992","DEBIAN-CVE-2026-98992","GHSA-p9pg-23xc-8cjw","UBUNTU-CVE-2026-98992"],"analysis":null,"analysis_generated_by":null,"assigner":"Linux","cpe":[],"cvss":{"score":null,"severity":null,"source":null,"vector":null,"version":null},"cwes":[],"description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnamespace: don't copy an unmounted mount tree\n\nmay_copy_tree() accepts a mount whose root is an nsfs or pidfs file\nbefore it checks whether that mount is mounted. This exception exists\nfor nsfs and pidfs mounts. They are part of no mount namespace so\nneither check_mnt() nor is_mounted() would let them through and\nbind-mounting a nsfsfd or a pidfd wouldn't work.\n\nProblem is that exception also admits a bind mount of such a file when\nit was lazily unmounted and is only kept alive by a file descriptor:\n\n  mount --bind /proc/self/ns/net /tmp/x\n  exec 3\u003c /tmp/x\n  umount -l /tmp/x\n  mount --rbind /proc/self/fd/3 /tmp/y\n\nWith MS_REC or AT_RECURSIVE copy_tree() doesn't stop at the unmounted\nmount. It copies every mount that stayed attached to it as well. So if\nyou have a bunch of overmounts over the nsfsfd or the pidfd the whole\nunmounted stack is copied. That's a bug.\n\nSo refuse to walk an unmounted tree. Copying its root alone stays\npossible. So a bind mount of a namespace that is gone can still be\nrecreated from a file descriptor on the old one. The file descriptor\npins that mount and its root and __has_locked_children() only reads the\ndirect children which don't leave the parent's list without\nnamespace_sem. The internal mounts carry MNT_NS_INTERNAL instead of NULL\nand are still walked. Copying an unmounted tree recursively fails with\nEINVAL.","ecosystems":[],"exploits":{"exploitdb":0,"first_seen":null,"github_poc":0,"max_poc_stars":null,"metasploit":0,"nuclei":0,"refs":[],"tier":"none_known"},"has_fix":true,"headline":"namespace: don't copy an unmounted mount tree","id":"CVE-2026-98992","indexable":true,"kev":null,"kind":"cve","links":{"ecosystem":null,"product":null,"products":[],"type":null,"year":"2026"},"n_packages":0,"n_references":5,"next":{"headline":"namespace: don't inherit MNT_UMOUNT in clone_mnt()","id":"CVE-2026-98993"},"packages":[],"prev":{"headline":"namespace: queue a mount only once for mount notifications","id":"CVE-2026-98991"},"products":["Linux"],"published":"2026-10-23","related":[],"sources":[{"class":"attribution","licence":"CVE Terms of Use (MITRE)","name":"CVE List","prefix":"CVE"}],"ssvc":{"automatable":null,"exploitation":null,"technical_impact":null},"state":"PUBLISHED","updated":"2026-10-23","vendors":["Linux"]},"summary":null,"url":"https://insights.sbomify.com/CVE-2026-98992/"}
