What is MAL-2026-18142?

MAL-2026-18142 is a malicious package in orchestril, published on 21 Oct 2026.

Official description

The package orchestril 0.1.0 was examined and no indicators of installer-side harm were observed. There is no evidence of install-time or import-time network activity, no fetch-and-execute of remote content, no reads of installer credential paths (such as ~/.aws, ~/.ssh, ~/.npmrc, browser profiles, or wallet stores), no environment-variable scraping, no silent-relay of caller-supplied data to a hardcoded destination, no backdoor or persistent listener, and no self-propagation or publish-token harvesting. No lifecycle build hooks performing shell or network operations were observed.

This campaign consists of similar loader packages, which provide executing code from a given URL. While they do not contain the malicious payload and the usage remains unknown, they are clearly a coordinated campaign to place multiple deceptive ways to load malicious code.
