# MAL-2026-2837: Malicious code in solanakit (PyPI)

- **Type:** Malicious package
- **Package:** `solanakit` (PyPI)
- **Published:** 17 Apr 2026

## What is MAL-2026-2837?

MAL-2026-2837 is a malicious package in solanakit, published on 17 Apr 2026.

### Official description

During import, the code downloads and starts a malicious package hosted on GitHub. It then first ensures persistency e.g., through the autostart registry key. Then, based on the encrypted config, an exfiltration demon is started. It registeres the instance in the C2 server and starts searching the file system looking for files matching given filename patterns and then monitoring changes. Discovered files are exfiltrated to hardcoded remote target.
The PyPI packages are used as dependencies in newly-created crypto-related repositories on GitHub.

## Fix prompt for AI coding agents

```text
MAL-2026-2837 is a malicious package: solanakit (PyPI). Every version was published to cause harm.
Task:
1. Search this repository's dependency manifests and lockfiles for the package, including transitive dependencies.
2. If it is present, remove it, regenerate the lockfile with the project's package manager, and replace whatever it was used for.
3. List any CI runners, developer machines or containers that installed it, so their secrets can be rotated.
4. If the package is not used anywhere, say so and change nothing.
