# MAL-2026-5736: Malicious code in node-stack-frames (npm)

- **Type:** Malicious package
- **Package:** `node-stack-frames` (npm)
- **Published:** 13 Jun 2026

## What is MAL-2026-5736?

MAL-2026-5736 is a malicious package in node-stack-frames, published on 13 Jun 2026.

### Official description

package.json declares a preinstall script that runs an inline Node program on `npm install`. The script requires `os` and `http`, collects `os.hostname()`, `os.platform()`, and `os.arch()`, base64-encodes the result, and issues an HTTP GET to `https://d8lslmi9io6i264ftj80mh9e7niqiaenf.oast.live/?data=<encoded>`. The host is a Project Discovery interactsh (OAST) subdomain used as an out-of-band collection endpoint. The package ships no functional code — its own description identifies it as a security holding placeholder — so the only effect of installing it is the automatic exfiltration of installer host identifiers to an attacker-controlled collector. This matches a dependency-confusion / recon beacon pattern.

## What should I do about MAL-2026-5736?

Remove the package from your dependencies and lockfiles, then rotate any secrets on machines where it was installed.

2. If it is present, remove it, regenerate the lockfile with the project's package manager, and replace whatever it was used for.
3. List any CI runners, developer machines or containers that installed it, so their secrets can be rotated.
4. If the package is not used anywhere, say so and change nothing.
